Liverpool given green light to sign 21-year-old Dutch centre-back

The Merseyside club have submitted a €30m offer to add Ajax defender Perr Schuurs, according to reports. The Reds are depleted at the heart of their back-line following the long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Reports have claimed that the German manager is keen to bolster in that department and the Reds are said to have made an approach for Schalke centre-back Ozan Kabak. But the Merseyside giants are targeting Schuurs and are already in negotiations with the Dutch club.

The report claims that the Reds have made the transfer a priority and have tabled a €30m offer. Perr made his debut for Ajax in October 2018 but has only become a regular at centre-back this campaign. U21 Netherlands international has already faced the Reds in the UCL this campaign.

But speaking earlier this month, Rafael van der Vaart suggested that Schuurs still needs to improve before the player considers leaving Ajax. ‘He is being punished internationally, but in the Netherlands, you can get away with it,’ said the ex-Ajax, Real Madrid and Tottenham footballer.

‘He has developed well, but he also has to get better very quickly in the Champions League. He’s just not ready for that yet.’ As such, several reports have claimed that the 21-year-old defender is a target for the Reds. The Dutch centre-back has stepped up following the departure of Matthijs de Ligt and done so to great effect.

Perr Schuurs resembles now-Juventus star De Ligt with his strong presence at the defence. Indeed, he showed great promise when playing against the Merseyside giants in the UCL in October.
