Liverpool given green light to sign 21-year-old Dutch centre-back

Ajax defender Perr Schuurs insists he wants to remain at the Dutch club for a ‘few campaigns’ after being linked with a move to Anfield. Liverpool manager is reportedly in the market for a new centre-back with both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ready to miss the majority of the season through injury.

Last week, reports claimed that the Reds had submitted an offer to sign Perr ahead of the winter transfer window. But Schuurs, who has only become a regular at Ajax this campaign, is keen to stay with the Dutch giants. ‘I hear and read it too,’ Schuurs said when asked about his link with the Merseyside giants.

‘It’s my first campaign as a basic player at Ajax. I want to play here for a few more seasons and win trophies. I’m not really working on that yet.’ Schuurs played in Ajax’s 1-0 defeat to Anfield in the UCL on Tuesday evening. And the Dutch centre-back believes his side should have escaped Liverpool with at least a draw.

‘We come here for three points, but we don’t get them. We have created enough chances and earned at least a point,’ the 21-year-old centre-back said. ‘It was good, especially in the first half. Of course, I get a yellow card. Then it becomes a bit more wait-and-see, that is a factor in your head.

‘Personally, I can look back on a good game, but I am disappointed that we did not get more.’ Some Reds supporters may be disappointed by this from the Dutch centre-back, but of course, things can always change.
