Liverpool enter the battle to sign €70m-rated World Cup winner

The Merseyside giants are in the market for a centre-back in the summer and have identified Raphael Varane as their prime target in the upcoming transfer window. However, Liverpool are going to face tough contest from rivals Man United and PSG in pursuit of the France international’s signature.

Raphael has been one of the crucial figures at the Los Blancos and has won a lot of titles for the club in his tenure. Varane looked ready to leave La Liga giants in the summer of 2019, with a few offers already on the table for the footballer. However, the French manager’s come back to the club convinced the 27-year-old defender to remain.

The French centre-back’s deal expires at the end of the 2021/22 campaign and he has not pledged his future with the club. So, Real Madrid could be forced into cash in on the centre-back in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid still have not reached a deal with their captain, Sergio Ramos, to continue for another campaign either, leaving them in a difficult position. However, Real Madrid faithful are set to welcome David Alaba with Real Madrid looking the most likely to sign the Austrian on a free transfer after his deal expires with Bayern Munich.

Virgil van Dijk, who is one of the best defenders in the world, tore his ligaments in his right knee at the start of the campaign and is currently on an intensive rehabilitation that could be extended till the end of the campaign. In addition, both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have also been sidelined with serious injuries as well.
