The Merseyside giants have made their first move to secure the services of Franck Kessie in the summer transfer window. Liverpool are willing to offer him wages worth €8m per year, but Ivory Coast international is set to remain put at Milan.
Franck has transformed into a powerhouse of a midfielder since joining the Rossoneri from Atalanta. Kessie initially arrived at Milan on a loan deal in the summer of 2017 before having his move being converted into a permanent one two years later, having become a mainstay in the middle of the park for Milan.
To date, the 24-year-old has played 184 games for Milan, chipping in with 30 goals and 15 assists along the way. However, with his deal with the Rossoneri expiring next summer, the Ivorian midfielder has become the subject of widespread speculation around his future. And the Reds are among the clubs keen on signing Franck this year.
Liverpool are still in the market for a long-term replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, who has joined PSG following the expiration of his contract at Liverpool. With the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita often flattering to deceive, and with Milner in the twilight of his career, it is imperative that Reds sign a midfielder this summer.
To that end, Saul Niguez is one of several options on Liverpool’s radar, while Kessie is a viable target as well, in that he would be more of a like-for-like replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. And it looks like the Reds have stepped up their efforts to secure the services of the African midfielder.
