Liverpool closely monitoring €20m-rated Premier League defender

The Merseyside club are reportedly continuing to monitor Brighton centre-back Ben White but have one doubt over his abilities. Liverpool are long-time admirers of the 23-year-old defender, but have one concern about his ability in the air, especially considering his height.

It stays to be seen if the Merseyside giants could change their minds about Ben, who could undoubtedly make a fine addition for the Reds at the moment due to Virgil van Dijk’s long-term absence through injury.

Liverpool surely need cover in that place and should look to spend big on a proven defender when the transfer window re-opens in winter. Whether or not White is really the man for the job is unclear, but he has looked a very promising teenager in recent times.

Ben impressed a great deal on loan at Leeds United last campaign and seems to have a big future in the match, so Reds supporters would likely take him as cover for Virgil. The former Leeds United loanee has had a tricky start to the new PL campaign with Brighton having helped Marcelo Bielsa climb out of the Championship in style last year.

Every footballer has his weaknesses, so surely the Merseyside giants will realise they can’t afford to be too picky and will do their best to ensure they’re not relying on injury-prone pair Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all campaign long.

The German manager was likely to have already been on the lookout for a new defender following the summer sale of Dejan Lovren, with Van Dijk’s knee injury furthering their need for reinforcements. Although Jamie Carragher has mentioned Dayot Upamecano as a target, Ben might be higher on their list
