Liverpool closely monitoring 20-year-old Dutch centre-back

The Merseyside club are reportedly considering a transfer swoop for Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs after he recently impressed against them in their UCL game. Liverpool won that game 1-0, but the U21 Netherlands international put in an assured display at the back for the Jews, and this looks to have sparked interest from Liverpool.

The report notes that Perr has recently had a trial at Anfield, so it looks he’s a footballer they know pretty well and who has been on their radar for some time. Now with an injury crisis in back-line, Reds could do with a signing like Schuurs to help cover for the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Fabinho.

The 20-year-old defender has become more of a regular at Ajax since Matthijs de Ligt left for Juventus and seems to be the latest fantastic teenager to rise up through the Dutch club’s academy. Reds will get another close look at the Dutch centre-back when the two clubs meet again in their UCL group later this campaign.

The report notes that Perr has actually been compared to fellow Dutchman Van Dijk, while Reds boss and the rest of his staff have allegedly been raving about how fantastic Schuurs was when Liverpool faced Ajax earlier this month.

Given the Reds need for a defender and Perr’s previous trial spell at Liverpool, this is a move that would make some sense but the teenager is still just one of a host of defenders ben linked with Liverpool right now.
