La Liga giants keep a close eye on £200,000-a-week Arsenal striker

Barcelona are very interested in signing Arsenal centre-forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and believe they will have a genuine opportunity of luring him to the Catalan club if Gunners fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Gabon international has once again been lethal in front of goal for the London club this campaign and leads their scoring charts with eight goals in 11 Premier League games. However, Gunners have so far struggled to tie new club captain Pierre-Emerick down to a new deal, with his current contract expiring in 18 months.

That has opened the door for the Blaugrana, as the Catalan giants are looking at Aubameyang as a replacement for Luis Suarez. Because of his current deal situation, Spanish club do not believe they will have to break the bank for the 30-year-old striker, who would be free to leave for nothing in the summer of 2021.

There is also a suggestion that Gabonese centre-forward has a clause in his deal that will allow him to leave Gunners if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this campaign.

London club were forced to hand a huge deal to Mesut Ozil when he entered the final year of his deal, traded Alexis Sanchez away and lost Aaron Ramsey to Juventus on a free transfer.

If both Aubameyang and fellow strike partner Alexandre Lacazette do not agree on new deals before the summer, Gunners will have to consider cashing in while they still hold value. Both footballers are reportedly wary of committing their futures to London club while there is so much uncertainty surrounding coach Unai Emery’s future.
