The London giants centre-back Antonio Rudiger has emerged as a target for Barcelona ahead of the winter transfer window. Germany international has battled his way into the Blues side after he was initially not part of the English manager’s plans this campaign.
Antonio played alongside Kurt Zouma in the back-line in Blues 2-0 PL win at Newcastle last month, as well as in the 4-0 victory away to Krasnodar at the end of October. Rudiger will be hoping for more action when Chelsea travel to face Sevilla in the UCL on Wednesday, with both teams having already qualified for the last 16.
It is a turnaround for the 27-year-old defender, who was on the lookout for a new team during the summer after the arrival of Thiago Silva pushed him down the London club pecking order. The German was linked with interest from both Spurs and Hammers, but no move materialized and he remained in Chelsea to fight for a place.
The German centre-back has insisted he is happy with his current situation but he could be the subject of a transfer swoop from the Blaugrana. The publication reports that Antonio has already been offered to Barcelona, and is on a list of targets for manager Ronald Koeman.
Gerard Piqué is ready to miss four to six months of football after suffering an injury last month, making it crucial that Ronald Koeman brings in defensive reinforcements. Antonio is not Blaugrana’s top centre-back target, with the La Liga still hoping to land Eric Garcia after failing to sign him from Man City over the summer.
