La Liga giants given green light to sign £110,000-a-week Chelsea striker

Atletico Madrid have emerged as the possible destination for Olivier Giroud. It appears Diego Simeone has asked his club to eye a summer swoop for the Chelsea striker, whose deal at the London club expires at the end of the campaign.

Olivier has given no hint over a potential extension, especially with the German manager keen on undergoing a major overhaul in the number nine department next campaign. It has put La Liga giants on red alert, although the Spanish outfit are ready to face stiff competition from Inter Milan and Lazio.

Atletico Madrid’s interest in France international stems from Simeone’s trust in French forwards, with the coach having previously gambled with the likes of Kevin Gameiro, Moussa Dembele and Antoine Griezmann.

The Chelsea striker, having featured in over 250 matches in the PL, also brings with him a vast amount of experience that could be useful, as Los Colchoneros prepare for life without Luis Suarez.

Although the striker was signed from the Blaugrana last summer, he has a clause in his deal that will allow him to leave Wanda Metropolitano for free this summer. The veteran centre-forward has already been linked with a sensational return to Liverpool.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are unlikely to be deterred by the possible departure of Olivier, as they are expected to enter the market for a new number nine one way or another. One of the names strongly being considered in the west London camp is Erling Haaland. However, Chelsea have also identified Lukaku and even Kane as possible alternatives.
