The London giants are prepared to sell Alexandre Lacazette this summer with Atletico Madrid reportedly poised to reignite their interest in the centre-forward as they look for a replacement for Diego Costa.
France international enjoyed two promising campaigns at the London club when he first arrived, scoring 36 goals in all tournaments across his first two years and was particularly prolific at the start of 2019.
However, Lacazette has not come close to his goal hauls back in France, netting 37 times in his final season with the Ligue 1 giants and has struggled this campaign. Diego Simeone wants to bolster the front-line during the summer transfer window.
Alexandre has been in and out of the side through a mixture of injury and tactical decisions, competing with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to play through the middle, and has netted only seven times in the PL. La Liga giants have been alerted to the 28-year-old striker’s interest in testing himself and believe Arsenal would put up little resistance.
The French centre-forward, one of the club’s highest earners, only has two years to run on his current deal with the London giants and they would be prepared to cash in now rather than risk him entering the final year of his contract when he can leave for nothing.
More importantly, Mikel Arteta is no great fan of Alexandre and is willing to let him leave if a huge offer is made. While the Spanish manager has praised Lacazette’s attitude and work rate in games, saying he has not scored as many goals as his play deserved.
