Juventus keeping tabs with £45,000-a-week Chelsea left-back

Bianconeri coach Maurizio Sarri is keen to reunite with Emerson Palmieri. The Chelsea defender has been identified as the desired target for the Italian tactician, having worked together at London club last campaign. It is believed Italy international will be brought in as the primary alternative for Alex Sandro.

Palmieri joined the London club at the start of last year, in a €20m move from AS Roma. He was one of the top left-backs in Serie A before moving to the Premier League. However, he had a slow start to his career at London club, often being overlooked in favour of Marcos Alonso.

But, Alonso’s poor form during the end of the season saw Emerson become a prominent part of the Blues first-team. He notably featured in six of Chelsea’s last 11 league matches during the 2018/19 season.

Most importantly, the 25-year-old defender’s contributions on the left flank helped the Premier League club lift the UEFA Europa League as they beat Gunners in the final. The Italian left-back was involved in 11 games, registering two assists.

This campaign, Palmieri was Blues first-choice left-back under new coach Frank Lampard. But, he has struggled with a hamstring injury, of late, which has paved the way for Marcos Alonso to come back to the starting lineup.

Palmieri is a key component in the Blues setup, even though he hasn’t enjoyed a comfortable ride after joining from the Serie A giants last year. His technical prowess, coupled with his ability to link-up with partners in the final third, is ideally suited to English coach’s style of play.
