The Merseyside giants midfielder Thiago has been ruled out of Liverpool’s upcoming PL match with West Brom but the German manager has confirmed James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri could feature. Spain international has not played for the Reds since October 17, when he suffered an injury during the Merseyside derby draw with Everton.
Alcantara excited supporters by returning to training this week but Jurgen Klopp says he is still working his way up to full fitness and will miss Sunday’s game with West Brom. Reds could welcome back James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri, however, with both returning to full training recently.
The German tactician said: ‘So Thiago has made his first step towards team training, he wasn’t involved in the full session but he’s making good steps. Unfortunately for him, he had a long time out so we cannot rush it and we will not rush it. The other guys are closer. Shaqiri trained really good and Milner yesterday had a full session.’
‘We still have two more training days before we need to make a decision but Thiago will not be involved.’ Reds are four points clear at the top of the PL ahead of their meeting with Sam Allardyce’s West Brom. Sam replaced Bilic at West Brom last week and saw his team slip to a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in his first game in charge.
Speaking after Reds thumping 7-0 win over Crystal Palace, Jurgen Klopp warned his footballers about the ‘proper challenge’ that awaits them at home to West Brom, with Sam Allardyce now in charge of the club.
