Jurgen Klopp prefers to keep £90,000-a-week player despite several offers

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to keep Dejan Lovren at the club this transfer window due to the Croatia international’s leadership qualities. Dejan is behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip when it comes to the defender pecking order at Anfield.

AC Milan have been strongly linked with a swoop for Lovren, who played a key role in Croatia reaching the final of the 2018 Mundial. Rossoneri have severe problems in the back-line and ready to spend considerable money on the footballer during this summer transfer window.

However, Jurgen is determined to keep the centre-back at the club due to his leadership qualities. Dejan has contracted with the Merseyside club until 2021, and his release clause is around €20m. He played many matches amazingly in the Premier League over the years.

The former Dinamo Zagreb defender has made 170 appearances for Liverpool since arriving from Southampton in 2014, contributing seven goals in the process. However, the centre-back only made 18 appearances during the 2018-19 season, with just 13 of those coming in the Premier League.

Merseyside club had an impressive consequence in the Premier League as they finished the competition in a second position. Liverpool also won the Champions League final against Tottenham 2-0, and it is the first title for Jurgen Klopp. English club already signed Sepp van den Berg from Zwolle this summer transfer window.

Reds heavily linked with Gremio winger Everton Soares, Ajax forward David Neres, Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir, Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Real Betis defender Junior Firpo and Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
