John Barnes believes Yves Bissouma ‘has the ability’ to play for the Merseyside club and feels he would be the perfect replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum. Gini’s future remains undecided. His deal expires at the end of the campaign and Wijnaldum has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona.
With his future uncertain, Reds are thought to be surveying their options and Barnes feels Mali international would be a ‘good fit’. Yves has been the standout footballer in Brighton’s midfield this campaign and has been linked with a move to one of the PL’s top sides in the summer transfer window.
And Barnes thinks he would have no problems slotting into the ‘template’ of the Reds midfield. ‘Yves Bissouma has the ability to play at a team like Liverpool,’ John Barnes said. ‘He could fill what Jürgen Klopp wants from the three midfield players.’
‘He is strong defensively, he works hard, he plays the ball quickly and every now and then when he needs to dribble, as much as we don’t speak about Brighton, you know he can do it because he has in the past. Of all the players playing in England, that could fit the template of Liverpool’s midfield three, he is one of them.’
‘He looks like Georginio Wijnaldum, although he doesn’t attack as much as ‘Gini’s, because Brighton plays a different style of football when Bissouma wants to can. He is 24 and young, he would be a great fit.’
