Italian club keeping close tabs with £75,000-a-week Arsenal midfielder

AC Milan have long held an interest in London club star Lucas Torreira and have now made their move by inquiring over his availability this summer. Rossoneri were linked with a move for Lucas last summer and there had been contacted over a transfer, but Gunners had no intention of selling the footballer they had only signed a year before.

However, times have changed and Torreira does not feature in the plans of Spaniard, who took over as Arteta in December. He is one of several footballers available for transfer this summer as Mikel attempts to achieve something of a clear out, allowing him to bring in new additions, with the likes of Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey targeted.

The inquiry has come in from Rossoneri for Lucas, who has also been linked with Fiorentina and Torino this summer, having recently played in Italy with Sampdoria. Of course, Lucas is available but there will certainly be a negotiation over price, with Gunners thought to want around £22m for the midfielder who cost them £26m in 2018.

Having already completed the additions of footballers Alexis Saelemaekers and Sandro Tonali this summer, the Rossoneri will be looking to spend much less than £22m on another option in the middle of the park. In an interview last month, Uruguay international hinted he could be set to depart London club.

‘Today I need to think about my future very well,’ the 24-year-old midfielder said. ‘I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously, if I have to leave it will be for the best. We have to be calm and wait.’
