Ex-PL striker says world-class Slovenian keeper ‘would be great option’ for Chelsea

Dimitar Berbatov thinks Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz will be an ‘amazing’ signing for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea but thinks the team need to address the goalkeeping situation urgently.

Berbatov, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United striker, has been impressed by the Blues’ business in the summer transfer market, with Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner already coming through the door.

However, Dimitar believes Frank Lampard needs to sign a goalkeeper, with stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga slipping down the pecking order.

And he believes Jan Oblak would be the ideal signing. ‘They for sure need a goalkeeper and Jan Oblak would be a great option,’ Dimitar told Betfair.

‘Timo Werner was a good deal, and Willian looks like he might stay if they win the FA Cup. ‘There are still rumours about Kai Havertz who would be an amazing player for them.’

The Spaniard’s future appears in doubt after he was dropped again by Frank Lampard for the crunch PL final day clash against Wolves.

But in spite of the seemingly urgent need to land a new goalkeeper, the English head coach has so far prioritised attacking recruits.

Meantime, Chelsea are allegedly weighing up a move for Borussia Monchengladbach star Matthias Ginter.

The Germany international played an important role in the heart of the Monchengladbach defence last term – making 31 top-flight appearances for the Bundesliga side.

Chelsea have already been busy in the transfer window with the acquisitions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, and a recent report stated that the Blues are nearing a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Now, Kicker claims that Frank Lampard has set his sights on another Germany international, and the Chelsea boss is keen to bring Ginter to Stamford Bridge.
