Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson have pulled out of Three Lions squad ahead of Sunday’s fixture against Kosovo. The Reds defender injured his knee during Friday’s training session and will not travel to Kosovo for England’s final Euro 2020 qualifier.
Joe, who was booed by England supporters during the 7-0 win against Montenegro on Thursday evening, suffered the injury from a challenge with Kieran Trippier but the problem is not believed to be serious. Meanwhile, Jordan missed the victory over Montenegro through suspension and has returned to Merseyside club due to illness.
‘Jordan Henderson will miss England’s final UEFA EURO 2020 qualifier in Kosovo on the weekend,’ a statement from the FA read. ‘Henderson arrived in camp with a viral infection that has not fully cleared. ‘ Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson also have injuries which is bad news for the Reds.
Meanwhile, his Liverpool team-mate Gomez sustained a knock in training on Friday and has not recovered sufficiently enough to travel. ‘The duo now came back to Liverpool meaning the Three Lions will head to Pristina on the weekend with a 23-man squad.’
Liverpool started this season impressively as they are leading the Premier League table. Reds added several players during the summer transfer window like Harvey Elliott from Fulham, Sepp van den Berg from Zwolle, Spanish shot-stopper Adrian and English goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.
Merseyside club heavily linked with RB Salzburg striker Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, Bournemouth attacker Ryan Fraser, Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, Lyon star Memphis Depay and Real Sociedad centre-back Diego Llorente.
