Reds have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo after the footballer confirmed that he hopes to remain in La Liga long into the future. Merseyside club are in the hunt for the Spanish defender, whose contract with the La Liga side contains a significant €50m release clause.
However, it looks like Liverpool are going to fail in their pursuit of the left-back if the footballer’s original words are anything to go off. Junior stated “I am at Betis now, it is the team in my heart, and I hope to be here for many years”, words that will not come as good news for Liverpool.
Reds could do with signing a back-up to Andy Robertson this transfer window given the fact that they’ve just lost Alberto Moreno after his deal with the club expired. Firpo showed last year that he’d got bags of potential and ability in his locker, with the left-back playing a vital role for a Betis, for the large part, were very impressive.
Junior’s release clause stands at nearly £45m, it would’ve been an excellent price to sign him from Liverpool’s point of view, especially when you consider the footballer is just 22 years old. Merseyside club ready to spend considerable money on the player during this summer transfer window.
Reds also linked with Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Dani Olmo, Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa, Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir, Ajax attacker Hakim Ziyech, Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele and Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
