Mesut Ozil’s agent, Erkut Sogut, has confirmed the playmaker is in negotiations to leave the London club this month and has announced that Fenerbahce will be the attacker’s only destination if he choses to move to Turkey.
Former Germany international’s £350,000-a-week deal is due to expire at the end of the campaign and Arsenal are keen for the playmaker to leave this month in order to free up their wage bill. Fenerbahce and MLS club DC United are both keen on securing a deal for Mesut.
And Sogut says he and Ozil, who has not featured at all under the Spanish manager this campaign, favour a speedy resolution with the London giants. ‘Of course, I can’t say too much about this right now because of confidentiality. Even if I want to I couldn’t say too much about this,’ Sogut said.
‘There’s a short period of time left on Ozil’s contract. In the summer this contract will finish as everyone knows. At the moment Mesut is free to talk to any club he likes. The rules dictate that you can talk to any club once you get into the final six months of your contract. We’re doing this at the moment. We’re in this process.’
‘At the moment Mesut can sign a new contract with whichever club he likes. He is free and he is free to do that. We are doing this and Arsenal knows this, of course. Within this, there are two alternatives. Either we stay until the end of the season and leave later, or after reaching a deal we can leave in January.’
