Wolverhampton are ready to announce the signing of Ki-Jana Hoever from the Merseyside giants in a surprise £10m deal. U18 Netherlands international was one of the most highly-rated teenagers at Liverpool, becoming the club’s youngest ever footballer in the FA Cup last year when he turned out against Wolves at only 16-years-old.
Ki-Jana did not make a league appearance for Liverpool but totalled four first-team games across the FA and League Cups. However, despite his encouraging progress, the Merseyside giants are happy to let him go and will move to Molineaux for £10m.
Hoever just joined the Merseyside club from Ajax in 2018 and had signed a new deal at the club last summer, but he is already ready to move on. After the departure of Matt Doherty earlier this summer, the 18-year-old defender is seen as a potential replacement on the right of defence at Wolves but is also comfortable playing at centre-back.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp sang Dutchman’s praises last summer after he signed the new long-term contract at the Anfield. ‘Ki-Jana is a wonderful kid and a sensational young player who can learn so much. Especially in the Napoli game when he came on, on the left side, it was maybe his best 15 minutes in the pre-season,’ Jurgen said.
‘The boys try to adapt to what we ask them for; we don’t tell them too much because we want them young and fresh and open. Take the information from the training pitch because if I tell them something, they are like soldiers and it’s not the right thing.’
