The London giants are ready to offer Timo Werner his favoured No.11 shirt after the RB Leipzig centre-forward officially completed his move to Chelsea. Blues confirmed that the 24-year-old striker will be arriving at London club at the end of the campaign after agreeing a £53m deal with the Bundesliga club.
Timo, who has scored 32 goals in 43 games for RB Leipzig this campaign, has signed a five-year contract worth only over £170,000 a week. Werner has not yet been assigned a squad number, but the centre-forward has his eye on the No.11 jersey.
Germany international has worn that number at Leipzig for the past four years and is said to be kept to keep it once he makes a move to the London club. Pedro is Blues current No.11 but he is set to vacate it once he leaves Stamford Bridge to join the Giallorossi this summer.
Pedro has already agreed on a pre-deal with the Serie A club, and there are now doubts over whether he will play any part in the remainder of Blues season. Blues will resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday when they play Aston Villa. Werner, meanwhile, will join once RB Leipzig’s Bundesliga season is completed.
‘I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club,’ the German centre-forward said on Thursday. ‘I’m now going to the amazing city of London. It was clear to me that I would take this next step abroad that was always my dream.’
