Chelsea planning shock move for 25-year-old Spain international

Chelsea are set to table a €60m bid to add Villarreal defender Pau Torres amid interest from Tottenham, Man United and Man City. Chelsea are reportedly prepared to table a bid close to €60m in an effort to convince the Yellow Submarine to offload him in the summer.

They have identified Spain international as a perfect replacement for Rudiger, who could be on the verge of joining Real Madrid after agreeing on a deal ahead of a Bosman move. Pau has been a first-team regular for the Yellow Submarine for quite some time now.

Torres already has over 120 competitive games for the club and is regarded as one of the best defenders in La Liga, thanks to his positioning sense and technical ability.

The 25-year-old defender is indeed a crafty centre-back whose partnership alongside Albiol has been critical in helping the La Liga giants win the Europa League last term and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in the ongoing season.

The Spanish defender’s displays have not gone unnoticed, with the Blues identifying him as a perfect replacement for Rudiger. With Christensen also on the verge of an exit, the Spaniard could have the chance to become a defensive stalwart at Chelsea in the years to come.

Pau’s technical prowess and positioning sense are also tailor-made for Thomas Tuchel’s tactical setup, making him a perfect defensive partner for hard-working centre-backs like Thiago Silva, Azpilicueta and Chalobah.
