Chelsea are preparing a last-minute offer for Roma star Kostas Manolas, according to reporter Emanuele Giulianelli.
The Blues are in need of defensive reinforcements with John Terry set to leave the club on a free transfer next month.
Many big-name centre-halves have been linked with a move to Chelsea, containing Juventus ace Leonardo Bonucci and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
But, Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has suggested the West Londoners are ready to make a late offer for Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas.
The Greece international is reportedly on the verge of a move to Zenit St Petersburg. However, the Blues are wishing to derail the deal.
“Manolas and Zenit are negotiating over the final details, but Chelsea are ready to make a last minute bid to overtake the Russians,” Giulianelli told website Tribal Football.
“Today, Chelsea are expected to submit to Roma the last call, the last bid of €40million [£35m]. While Zenit’s offer is about €30m [£26m] – to take the player.” – He Added.
But, the Stamford Bridge Giants are not guaranteed to secure Manolas, despite their offer being significantly greater.
“The problem is that Zenit are offering a better contract to the player,” Giulianelli explained.
