Chelsea manager has ruled Christian Pulisic out of Blues clash with Liverpool on Sunday while three more summer additions will also miss the game at London. Pulisic was in fantastic form at the end of the last campaign, scoring and assisting in a thrilling game at Anfield, but he picked up a hamstring injury in the FA Cup final with Arsenal.
Frank Lampard had been optimistic about Christian’s recovery but he suffered a setback before the trip to face Brighton on Monday night and is still struggling. Summer additions Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech are also still recovering from their own injury problems, while Thiago Silva is lacking match fitness, though Timo Werner is fine.
‘Chilwell is not ready for the game, neither is Christian Pulisic,’ confirmed Frank Lampard at his pre-match press conference on Friday. ‘We hope they will work well during the week. Ziyech is also not ready for the game. Werner is fit, though. Thiago has been training for the last three or four days, but Liverpool will come too soon for him.’
Chilwell arrived at London club carrying an injury while Hakim picked up a knock in the club’s only pre-season game with Brighton. None of the quartets are expected to be risked if fit with Barnsley in the Carabao Cup next week, though they may target a return to action against West Bromwich at the Hawthorns on September 26.
The 22-year-old forward had been expected to play against Brighton but was left out of the squad completely. After the game, the English manager confirmed it would have been ‘a big ask’ for him to play with the Seagulls.
