Dries Mertens is reportedly looking closer to sealing a transfer away from Napoli, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United tipped to be on alert. The 32-year-old centre-forward is nearing the end of his deal at the Stadio San Paolo, and it seems increasingly like he’s going to be a free agent this summer.
This is because Dries’ negotiations over a new Napoli deal are not going at all well. The report explains that Blues, Gunners and Red Devils were all in for Mertens in winter, so it could be that the three teams now have a good opportunity to snap him up for free ahead of next campaign.
Belgium international has been a world-class performer in his time in Serie A, and he could do an important job at Stamford Bridge, the Emirates Stadium, or Theatre of Dreams.
Blues and Red Devils are both short of options upfront at the moment, with Frank Lampard lacking depth behind Tammy Abraham, while the Norwegian manager failed to replace Romelu Lukaku after his exit last summer.
Gunners have quality in attack so perhaps have less of a need for the Belgian striker, but the Telegraph linked top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Barcelona in winter, so they might want to think about dealing with possible interest in him again in the summer.
Chelsea have excellent consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in a fourth place in the table. London club signed Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid and Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund recently.
