Chelsea could attempt to bring Marc Guehi back to the London club only a year after selling him to Crystal Palace. Chelsea are eyeing the 21-year-old centre-back as a suitable replacement for Rudiger. The Blues will enter the summer transfer window with the need to start rebuilding the squad and club in the post-Abramovich era.
With the sanctions placed on the Russian oligarch crippling their spending power in the market, Chelsea have been unable to secure the futures of a couple of pivotal centre-backs. Rudiger will likely join Real Madrid in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window, with Christensen also ready to leave the Blues as a free agent.
The Danish centre-back could become Rudiger’s rival, with recent reports claiming he has reached a verbal agreement to move to Barcelona. The Blues will thus need to enter the market for at least one defender in the summer transfer window, especially if Chalobah and Sarr grow in stature next campaign.
As a result, several centre-backs have emerged on the Blues’ radar over a potential move ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. One such option is England international. Marc is a Chelsea academy product, spending most of his formative years in the Blues’ famed academy.
But the English defender never got the opportunity to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Chelsea. And after excelling on loan at Swansea City, Guehi joined Crystal Palace last summer.
