Chelsea keep a close eye on €80m-rated Slovenia international

The London giants are closely monitoring Jan Oblak’s situation with the Atletico Madrid shot-stopper having doubts over the club’s project, according to reports in Spain. Chelsea coach is said to be in the market for a new shot-stopper with Kepa Arrizabalaga making a string of high-profile errors last campaign.

Lampard is looking to rebuild his defence after his side conceded 54 goals in the PL over their 2019/20 season. Jan was left frustrated by La Liga giants’ lack of silverware the last term as they crashed out of the UCL at the quarter-final stages to RB Leipzig and finished 17 points behind La Liga winners Los Blancos.

That disappointment has led to Oblak, who is considered among the best shot-stoppers in the world, having some doubts over the sporting project at the club. Spanish giants stay firm in their stance that any club looking to sign their No.1 must pay his €120m release clause.

The report states that Blues are attentive to Slovenia international’s situation, while Ligue 1 champions PSG is also a possible destination for the goalkeeper. Responding to the links to Blues before Atletico’s UCL exit to Leipzig, the 27-year-old goalkeeper refused to rule out a switch to Chelsea.

‘This is not the time to talk about that,’ he said. ‘I’ll assess the season when the last game is over… then there will be time after that to talk.’ Blues are on the hunt for a new No 1 as the English manager is unimpressed with the inconsistency of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined from Athletic Bilbao two years ago.
