Chelsea keep a close eye on £35m-rated creative midfielder

Chelsea agree personal terms with Real Madrid loanee Mateo Kovacic and prepare to make a bid in July when the transfer window opens again. London club need a new creative midfielder as Ruben Loftus-Cheek has a severe injury, Danny Drinkwater linked with several clubs, and they need replacement.

Croatia international is the best choice in this situation as he had an impressive campaign and proved his worth one more time. Blues will do everything to sign him this summer, but it will be difficult as Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Zenit also plan to make an offer during the transfer window.

There will be a contest for the footballer, and his price could become much more. Kovacic joined the Spanish club from the Nerazzurri in 2015 with a €38m deal. He is one of the best midfielders in Europe and a key figure for the club.

In this season, Mateo played 51 games and made two assists in all tournament. It is an excellent result, and he can do much more during the next campaign. The 25-year-old midfielder has contracted with the Los Blancos until 2021, and his release clause is around £35m.

He regularly plays in the national team line-up and also helped them to finish the 2018 Mundial in a second position which is already a big success for the footballer. Probably Croatian star will accept the correct offer from the English club. Blues heavily linked with Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, Inter Milan centre-forward Mauro Icardi and Tottenham attacker Christian Eriksen.
