The London cub are targeting a move for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports. U20 France international is regarded as one of the brightest young midfield talents in Ligue 1 having joined the Les Monegasques from Bordeaux in a £16m deal a year ago.
Aurelien has quickly established himself at the heart of Monaco’s midfield and he has attracted interest from several teams around Europe. Borussia Dortmund were linked with Tchouameni, while Real Madrid have also considered him as an alternative signing to Stade Rennais’ 18-year-old star Eduardo Camavinga.
But the Blues are also in the running to sign the 20-year-old midfielder. The report claims that the Blues are keeping tabs on the French midfielder’s progress at Stade Louis II and are looking to strengthen their midfield options in the summer, regardless of whether the Englishman is still the coach.
Speaking earlier this month, Frank Lampard suggested that the Blues priority is to trim the squad before securing any new arrivals. ‘I have ideas,’ said the English tactician. ‘We have a big squad, we’ll have to see if that changes if there are opportunities for players who aren’t playing so much.’
‘That will be a conversation between the player, the club and myself. Then we’ll see if we can strengthen in the right way, but we’re not jumping up and down to do so. My focus this year is purely on work because we have new players because we have young players, so I’m focusing on that.’
However, with the summer window fast approaching, it is expected there will be a scramble to secure the promising midfielder’s signature, with the Blues expected to be right in the mix.
