Blues have emerged as front-runners in the race to add Leicester defender Ben Chilwell. England international has established himself as one of the most highly-rated left-backs in Premier League and is now of high probability to be part of the national squad that will compete during the European Championships next year.
The reported London club target is slowly establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League thanks to excellent displays for the Foxes. It is hard to see Ben remaining at the King Power Stadium for the long-term.
Chilwell will likely end up moving to a club that can challenge for the Premier League title and one who can offer him the opportunity to play football in the Champions League. London club have been impressive under Frank Lampard so far this campaign.
Chelsea will most likely not be title contenders this campaign, however, they are changing their reputation in terms of how they treat young footballers. The Stamford Bridge club has historically had a bad reputation in terms of treating teenagers well.
This campaign alone, Blues coach Lampard has already identified three homegrown stars in Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount. The former England international’s good reputation in terms of how he works with youngsters could also convince the 22-year-old defender that he should indeed make a switch to Chelsea.
London club may be on the market for a new left-back next summer. Marcos Alonso appears to be out of favour at the Stamford Bridge and maybe offloaded during the summer to make way for a replacement.
