The London giants are reportedly among the clubs eyeing up a possible transfer swoop for RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano. The 21-year-old defender has shone in his time in Germany, forming part of this hugely fantastic RB Leipzig side that has also contained recent Blues addition, Timo Werner.
Dayot may now be being lined up to join Timo at London club as Blues being among the defender’s many admirers. This could be a fine signing for the London club as they could do with improving their defensive options, with question-marks over players like Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori this campaign.
The likes of Arsenal and Man United also mentioned as being in for Upamecano, with the report stating he’d likely cost nearly £55m. It would be huge for Blues to beat their rivals to this quality signing and help them continue building an exciting young squad.
The London club have still not really replaced club legend John Terry, and in U21 France international they’d be signing a real defensive leader who could be a crucial figure for them for many years to come. The French centre-back has one year left on his deal with Bundesliga giants and has a £50m exit clause.
Chelsea are leading the chase for the French defender, who has also been linked with Man United and Gunners. With the Spanish source suggesting that a deal for the footballer is close. Dayot is one of Europe’s most highly-rated young centre-backs and has played 28 league games this term.
