The London giants are prepared to splash €100m to sign Inter Milan centre-forward Romelu Lukaku, as the desired alternative for Erling Haaland. Belgium international is enjoying a stellar season in Serie A but it appears he could be set for a move away from San Siro this summer, with a come back to England seemingly a possibility.
Blues and Man City are already keen on securing the services of Romelu next campaign, with Chelsea, in particular, prepared to shell out as much as €100m. It is believed that he has been identified as the primary alternative for top target Erling Haaland for both these teams, while Barca too have expressed their desire to sign the striker.
Lukaku’s current deal at San Siro expires in 2024 but the club’s struggles in Europe, combined with the uncertainty regarding the owners could force the centre-forward to reconsider his future.
The 27-year-old striker should find no shortage of suitors if he does choose to leave the Nerazzurri, having netted as many as 21 goals in only 28 games in the league this campaign.
He is already the second-highest goalscorer in the Serie A so far, with his contributions in front of goal playing a critical role behind Inter Milan‘s complete dominance in the Italian top flight.
A return to the London club, in that regard, would be an interesting switch, considering how he was never really given an opportunity to prove his qualities, during his time at Chelsea.
The current version of Chelsea, though, makes a strong case for the Belgian striker as manager Thomas Tuchel could certainly use his physical stature as well as an improved technical prowess, in the new possession-oriented setup that has significantly improved the club’s defensive record.
