Ben Chilwell is Blues first choice recruit in the left-back role this summer, but the English manager and club chiefs have identified two alternatives should they fail to land the Leicester City left-back. England international has an £85m price tag, which could force the London giants to look elsewhere.
Nicolas Tagliafico, the Ajax defender, and Porto left-back Alex Telles are back-up options and would both be considerably cheaper than Ben. One of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri is expected to be sold off this summer. Nerazzurri have opened negotiations with Italy international.
Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, now boss at the San Siro, is keen to add the Italian left-back to his squad. Serie A giants are set to bid £18m for his services but the London giants are holding out for a higher fee for the Italy international, who is under deal until 2022.
Palmieri is open to a return to Serie A to give himself the best opportunity of being Italy’s first-choice left-back at next summer’s European Championship. Emerson is concerned about his opportunities of regular first-team football at London club amid Blues pursuit of Ben.
Bianconeri are also interested in his signature. Brazil international has impressed in Liga NOS this campaign. He has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 23 Liga NOS starts. Nicolas, who has also been linked with Foxes as a replacement for the English defender, has scored five goals in all tournaments.
The 27-year-old defender, whose attacking talents have drawn the attention of Europe’s top clubs, also provided nine assists across all tournaments. Porto could be ready to cash in on the Brazilian defender this summer with his deal ending in 2021.
