Chelsea held talks with €60m-rated Brazil international

The London giants are reportedly ready to pay nearly £53m for the transfer of Barcelona attacker Philippe Coutinho this summer. Chelsea are looking at Brazil international as an alternative to Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz, with a deal for the German playmaker seemingly dragging on without much progress.

Blues could target Philippe as an alternative, with the playmaker unlikely to have a future at the Blaugrana after a disappointing spell in La Liga. Despite being a world-class performer during his time at Anfield, Coutinho failed to find his feet at Camp Nou and spent this campaign on loan at Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old playmaker scored twice for loan club Bayern against the Blaugrana in their UCL clash last week, but overall he’s not had the most convincing season at the Allianz Arena either.

This could open the door for Blues to pounce for a player who has shown what he can do in the PL, and who could revive his career with a come back to England.

The Brazilian playmaker could be the perfect Eden Hazard replacement for Frank Lampard’s side, even if there would, of course, be some risks associated with signing a footballer who has looked so out of form for a while now.

It is understood the bonus is specific to the player and not the club, so even if Philippe lifts the trophy with the Germans, Barcelona would still have to pay up. Meanwhile, Philippe sent a rather funny tweet back in 2011 which some are saying foreshadowed Bavarians thumping win.
