London club will watch Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech for the rest of the campaign before making a summer move to bring the attacker to Chelsea, according to reports. The London club failed in their attempt to recruit the 26-year-old playmaker in the winter transfer window, with the Jews unwilling to let the attacker go mid-season.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Hakim could be lured away from the Johan Cruyff Arena for nearly £42m. That makes Ziyech a more affordable option than Jadon Sancho, as BVB are demanding upwards of £120m for the England international. Lampard wants to bolster the squad during the summer transfer window.
Having not signed a footballer in the last two transfer windows, Chelsea manager Lampard will reportedly be given £150m to spend in the summer transfer window. The 41-year-old coach is aiming to bring in four footballers with that budget, and Morocco international is top of the wishlist.
Other areas of the squad, the English coach, could be looking to improve is left-back, with England international Ben Chilwell a viable option. London club will also be monitoring the situation of shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was dropped for their 2-2 draw with Leicester City in the Premier League.
The west London club may also need to ship out a few players to raise funds. World Cup winner Olivier Giroud was close to joining Inter Milan in winter, while the summer window could also see the departure of forwards Pedro and Willian. Chelsea also linked with Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake and Real Madrid playmaker Isco.
