Chelsea given green light to sign No.9 Norwegian goal machine

The London giants are reportedly set to test the waters with an opening bid of £77m for Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window. Norway international shot to fame at Austrian giants RB Salzburg owing to his supreme goalscoring prowess.

With several top teams around Europe vying for his transfer, Bundesliga giants won the battle for his signing last winter and Erling has been a huge hit in Germany so far. To date, Haaland has plundered 41 goals and 10 assists from 42 matches in all tournaments for the German giants.

The 20-year-old striker has been in prolific form this term, with 25 of his 41 goals coming in 2020/21, which includes a double in the BVB’s UCL knockout game with Sevilla earlier this week. The Norwegian striker’s prolific goalscoring form has led to interest from a host of teams in Europe with the likes of Chelsea, Man City among his suitors.

Chelsea have made Erling their top transfer target heading into the summer transfer window and are now planning to beat any contest for him by launching an early offer. Haaland, in his deal with Borussia Dortmund, has a release clause worth £65m which would only come into play in the summer of 2022.

However, Blues are not prepared to wait till that happens and are now set to make an opening offer of £77m for the centre-forward in the upcoming transfer window itself.

Blues spent heavily last summer as well, strengthening their attacking unit with German sensation Timo Werner, among other stars. In addition, Chelsea also have Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud competing for the striker slots at Stamford Bridge.
