Chelsea given green light to sign €30m-rated Serie A defender

The London giants now know how much they will have to pay in order to secure the services of Alex Sandro in the summer transfer window. Juventus want €25m in exchange for Brazil international, who is likely to be offloaded ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Sandro joined Bianconeri from Porto in the summer of 2015 and was an instant success at the club. However, in the last couple of years, Alex’ stock has fallen a fair bit, with injuries also playing a part in his downfall. And, in the ongoing season, Andrea Pirlo has rotated him heavily on the left side of the back-line.

The 30-year-old defender has turned out 228 times for Old Lady, even contributing in the final third with 13 goals and 29 assists. Heading into the summer transfer window, though, it seems like the Brazilian’s time with Juventus is set to end, with the Blues a likely destination, as they aim to replace both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.

Indeed, neither Alonso nor Emerson has managed to perform consistently over the last few years and under the tutelage of Tuchel, it is Ben Chilwell who has prevailed to become the first-choice left wing-back. Having said that, if the Blues do intend to move both Alonso and Emerson out of the club, they will need to sign a replacement.

To that end, Alfonso Pedraza is one of the left-backs who have been linked with Chelsea, with the Brazilian defender a viable target as well. Indeed, with Ben Chilwell the first-choice left wing-back, Alex could be used as a rotation option, meaning he could become an asset for a few years despite entering his thirties.
