The London giants have completed a deal to sign Gabriel Menino from Palmeiras. Brazil international is considered a possible starter in midfield for the national team in the future. Gabriel has drawn comparisons to Man City legend Yaya Toure as a result of the haste in which he gets from one end of the field to the other.
Menino’s more N’Golo Kante than he is Jorginho or Mateo Kovacic, which is exactly what Blues need in the middle of the park, with Thomas Tuchel’s options being strong in their own right but tough to piece together as a collective.
It’s not exactly clear whether the 20-year-old midfielder would be drafted straight into the Blues first-team squad, or would go out on loan in order to continue his development, but Paco Belmonte believes that the deal has been done.
Of course, we will await more reputable sources to authenticate this story before considering it to be the truth, but this kind of news can oftentimes trickle out locally before making its way across the sea. The Brazilian midfielder may well be playing his football at the London club beyond the end of the campaign.
Chelsea are believed to have watched him closely, but neither they or Atletico Madrid, who are also linked with the midfielder, have made a move. The La Liga leaders are Chelsea’s biggest rivals for Gabriel’s signature and the promising teenager is interested in joining Diego Simeone’s team.
La Liga giants may not be able to afford him, however, as it is believed they need to balance the books to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. If the Spanish side need to sell a player before making a move, that could allow the Blues to sneak in and sign Menino.
