Chelsea enter the battle to sign No.9 Ligue 1 centre-forward

Blues and Red Devils are still holding out hope that they can sign Edinson Cavani this summer, with the Paris Saint-Germain striker’s future remaining up in the air. Uruguay international, who turns 33 next month, is out of contract at PSG in June and looks certain to leave the French giants.

It is believed that he has come to a deal over a move to Atletico, and while he is eager to move to the Spanish club, nothing has been signed as yet. This leaves the door ajar for other teams to swoop for his signature, and both Blues and Man United hope to be the ones to do just that.

Both Premier League giants clubs have made contact with Edinson’s representatives over a potential agreement, as they are permitted to do now, he has entered the final six months of his deal. While a free transfer in the summer is likely, a winter move is still a possibility for Cavani, if any suitors can come up with an acceptable offer for the Parisians.

The 32-year-old striker has started only four Ligue 1 games this campaign having struggled with several injuries, so the Parisians may be welcome to cash in on him before the end of his deal.

The Uruguayan has had a prolific time in Ligue 1 since moving to Paris in 2013, scoring 198 goals in 290 matches for the club, and even in this injury-hit season has managed five in 12 in all tournaments.

Neither Chelsea nor Man United are blessed with a wide range of options upfront and would love to add his experience and quality to their team, preferably in January, but if not, at the end of the season.
