Matthijs de Ligt is once again set to become one of the hottest properties in the transfer market, following Mino Raiola’s recent comments. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea are now pursuing the Juventus centre-back.
The Netherlands international joined the Bianconeri from Ajax in the summer of 2019 following a brilliant stint with the Dutch club. One of the most talented young centre-backs of his generation, de Ligt, was also the club captain for Ajax while still in his teens.
At Allianz Stadium, though, it has not exactly been smooth sailing for Matthijs. To date, the Dutch defender has played 79 games for the Old Lady, chipping in with five goals and two assists along the way. However, his future at Juventus is uncertain following recent comments by his agent Mino Raiola.
And such a situation has piqued the interest of some of the biggest teams in the world in Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea. Meanwhile, the Blues had been keen on signing a defender in the summer, with Jules Kounde being their priority.
However, Chelsea were unable to agree on terms with Sevilla over a contract, with a move for Jules Kounde being put off till the winter window. However, Matthijs is also an option under consideration at the London club.
It is still unclear whether the Bianconeri are going to battle hard to keep hold of Matthijs. Having said that, a major transfer battle seems to be setting up for the services of de Ligt if he does leave the Serie A giants, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea battling hard for him.
