Chelsea determined to sign €20m-rated Gabon international

Chelsea submitted an audacious offer to Barcelona last week to secure the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the ongoing transfer window. The London club have proposed a base fee worth €6m while including Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi in the part-exchange deal.

Gabon international has exorcised his Arsenal demons since joining the Catalan giants over six months ago. Aubameyang settled down immediately at Barcelona and scored several critical goals to inspire the Catalan club to a second-place finish in La Liga, ending a difficult season strongly.

Pierre-Emerick thus finished the 2021/22 campaign as Barcelona’s joint top scorer despite playing just 23 matches. But Aubameyang has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona following the arrival of Lewandowski this summer. With Barcelona reportedly discussing his future with him, he might leave the club amid interest from Chelsea.

The interest from the Blues is hardly surprising, considering they have offloaded Lukaku and Werner this summer. The duo’s departure has left the German manager without a recognised striker at his disposal, with Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling the only makeshift options he can consider.

The Gabonese centre-forward has thus emerged as a viable target for the London giants, with the German manager looking to reunite with his former Borussia Dortmund charge at Chelsea. Recent reports had claimed that the west Londoners were preparing an offer to secure the services of the Barcelona centre-forward.

The London club’s bid includes a base fee worth €6m while also offer Alonso and Michy Batshuayi to complete the part-exchange deal.
