The London giants are reportedly ready to rival Man City in the battle for Barcelona forward Lionel Messi. Argentina international has spent his entire professional career with the Blaugrana after joining their youth academy all the way back in 2000.
Since his arrival in Spain, Lionel has enjoyed a career littered with silverware, both individually and collectively. Messi’s extraordinary career has seen him become one of, if not, the, greatest player ever to grace the beautiful game. However, the 33-year-old forward seems ready not to finish his glittering career with the club where it all began.
A summer of turmoil at Camp Nou and increased financial strains saw the Argentine forward come close to throwing the towel in as the attacker looked for a way out.
Speculation began to mount but after Messi gave Goal an exclusive interview confirmed he would stay at Barcelona for at least one more campaign, Lionel proposed sensational switch away was postponed.
However, as the winter window fast approaches, the talks linking Messi away all ready began with the latest coming from journalist Guillem Balague. According to Balague, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea are ‘in the equation’ to sign him.
It has also been reported that despite Blues whopping £230m summer spending, they still stay keen on bringing Lionel to Chelsea with the finances of any proposed deal thought not to be a problem.
The London giants have tended to opt for younger additions as part of their long-term approach under the English manager. Chelsea spent almost £230m over the last transfer window to sign Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Edouard Mendy
