Real Madrid player Raphael Varane is a subject of late transfer interest from London giants even as he is believed to be close to joining Man United. France international has grown into one of the best modern-day defenders during his ten-year-long stint at the Los Blancos.
Having joined from Lens in 2011, Raphael has won everything there is to be won at club level with La Liga giants and has even lifted the FIFA World Cup in 2018 with Les Bleus. One of the most successful centre-backs in the game, Varane has entered the final year of his deal with Los Blancos and has his heart set on a new challenge.
This has led to a serious interest in his services from around Europe, although it seems like Man United are leading the race to sign the 28-year-old centre-back.
Indeed, it has been claimed that the French defender has already reached a deal over personal terms over a five-year deal with the Red Devils, who are looking for a long-term reliable partner for club captain Harry Maguire. Talks with Real Madrid are said to be in advanced stages as well, as per reports in Spain.
However, there has been a late entry into the picture as Blues have registered their interest in the eleventh-hour, trying to swoop Varane away from under the noses of Man United. Chelsea are in the market for defensive reinforcements, having sold Fikayo Tomori permanently to Milan, while Zouma is expected to be on his way out of Chelsea as well.
