Chelsea are desperate to sign €30m-rated Turkish centre-back

Chelsea are reportedly plotting a bold move to sign Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu after already raiding the Foxes to prise Wesley Fofana away from the club this summer. But the London giants face a transfer battle with Inter Milan and Villarreal, who are also interested in signing the 26-year-old centre-back.

Caglar joined the Foxes from Freiburg in 2018 after Leicester City stumped up £13m for the centre-back. And he has since gone on to rack up 124 games for Brendan Rodgers’ side. But Soyuncu, who is out of deal next summer, fell out of favour towards the end of last campaign and is yet to feature in the PL this time around.

Turkey international has already shown that he can cut it against the best in the top-flight during his time in PL, however. And the Turkish defender’s three possible suitors have all started talks to get their hands on him. The Blues spent £272m during the summer transfer window after they were taken over by Todd Boehly at the end of May.

And the London giants’ new owner clearly has the hunger to build a formidable squad at Chelsea. If Potter does agree on a deal for the former Freiburg defender either in winter or next summer when his Leicester deal expires, he could decide to instantly partner him with Wesley Fofana once again.

Graham Potter named two defenders in his opening match at the Blues helm with RB Salzburg as veterans Thiago Silva and Azpilicueta lined-up at the heart of the back-line, with Koulibaly dropping to the bench.
