The London club are reportedly eyeing a move for Barcelona on loan midfielder Marc Cucurella ahead of the summer transfer window. Marcos Alonso has won back his place in Blues starting line-up in recent months, but the English manager is keen to bring in a new defender to provide a contest for the experienced Spanish left-back.
Emerson Palmieri, meanwhile, is expected to come back to Serie A amid a promising start to the 2019/20 campaign. It’s understood Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell is Frank Lampard’s number one target. However, the Blues have been forced to draw up a list of alternatives in case their move for England international ends in failure.
Porto defender Alex Telles has long been on London club’s radar, and U21 Spain international is the latest footballer to emerge as a possible option. Blues have been keeping close tabs on Marc who has enjoyed an excellent start to the season on loan at Getafe.
Napoli, Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen have also been scouting Cucurella this term. Barcelona have a deal to sell the 21-year-old midfielder to Getafe permanently for €6m this summer and their agreement would see them earn 40 per cent of the fee of his next move.
The Spanish starlet who can also play as a left-sided midfielder will have a €25m release clause in his deal at La Liga club. Last month, Marc hit out at his parent club for failing to give chances to youngsters such as himself in the first-team. ‘I think that at Barcelona, which is a big club, the important thing is to win in the end,’ he said.
