Marcos Alonso is facing an uncertain future in London giants, with the German manager open to offloading him in the upcoming summer transfer window. It has put Thomas Tuchel’s former employers Borussia Dortmund on red alert, as the Bundesliga giants hope to sign Spain international for as little as €15m.
The Blues owner Roman Abramovich, though, is likely raise his demands, although a lot could depend on Marcos’ desire come the end of the campaign. Alonso has had a largely disappointing season at Chelsea, amassing just 13 PL matches so far this campaign.
Much of these matches have come under the German coach, as the 30-year-old left-back was completely ostracised from the plans of ex-Chelsea manager Frank Lampard. Yet, the Spanish defender is just considered as a rotation footballer for the German boss, who has usually juggled between him and Ben Chilwell in the left wing-back position.
And there is every indication that Tuchel will be keen on signing his desired option in that position this summer, with the Blues being notably linked with a move for Alex Sandro this summer.
It does not bode well for Marcos’ future at London club, and that is where Borussia Dortmund come into the fray, as the Black and Yellows scour the market for a left-back that can provide cover for Raphael Guerreiro next campaign.
The BVB have not been impressed by the displays of Nico Schulz, while they are set to lose out on the services of the long-serving Marcel Schmelzer at the end of the campaign.
Marcos’ departure could be a good move for the Blues as well, as Chelsea hope to undergo a defensive overhaul following an extremely successful little spell under the German boss during the second half of the season.
