London club have received an offer from Ligue 1 club Bordeaux for club centre-back Laurent Koscielny, who has only one year remaining on his current deal. France international has been offered the opportunity to complete a transfer to his country, with negotiations over a new deal at Emirates Stadium yet to begin.
Les Girondins have reportedly put a three-year contract on the table for the defender, who could now consider his future with just twelve months left to run on his current deal at Gunners. Lyon and Rennes have also expressed an interest in Laurent, but Bordeaux are leading the race for his signature having already submitted a formal bid.
Losing such an important figure would be a massive blow for Unai Emery ahead of the upcoming campaign, with Arsenal aiming to improve on a disappointing fifth-place Premier League finish last time around.
The 33-year-old defender missed the first half of the 2018-19 season through long-term injury, but he racked up 28 appearances across all tournaments from December and helped the London club reach a Europa League final.
Despite his advancing years, Koscielny still has the quality to perform at the highest level, and he would surely well fit in at any club in France. However, it would be a risky move for the English club to grant French centre-back an exit, given the lack of depth in Spanish manager’s current defensive ranks.
The London club shipped a whopping 51 goals in the Premier League last season and if they fail to sign in any extra reinforcements this transfer window, then keeping the current squad together must be a priority.
