Barcelona are reportedly considering a transfer deal for Merseyside club midfielder Naby Keita as a possible Plan B to Georginio Wijnaldum. The Blaugrana stay keen on bolstering in midfield, with new coach Ronald Koeman open to signing Guinea international instead of his fellow Dutchman Gini Wijnaldum.
Naby has struggled to settle at Liverpool and it could make sense for the Reds to cash in on him before he loses value soon. Despite Keita looking a huge talent on his day, he just hasn’t performed consistently enough in his time in the PL and may benefit from a move to get his career back on track.
Reds might also have less room for the 25-year-old midfielder now as Bavarians have confirmed an agreement over a deal for Thiago Alcantara. Reds supporters may be disappointed to see the Guinean midfielder move on if this does happen, but the signing of Spain international would surely make up for it.
As for Barcelona, they’ll hope they can see the Naby that looked so fantastic at RB Leipzig, as a footballer of that style could make a valuable signing to this struggling side. The make-up of Reds best, the first-choice midfield is always a talking point for Liverpool supporters, with the German boss currently able to call upon several different options.
Henderson and Fabinho, when at their best, are perhaps certainties, while Wijnaldum would also have a strong claim. Keita, now into his third full campaign at Liverpool since he arrived from RB Leipzig for £52m, would also be in the conversation, Minamino can play there if required, and Curtis Jones will get plenty of minutes after stepping up from the Academy.
