Aston Villa leading race to sign £140,000-a-week Liverpool midfielder

Darren Bent reckons the scene is set for former Aston Villa midfielder James Milner to complete long-awaited Leeds United come back from the Merseyside club. Former England international will inevitably complete a shock return to Leeds United, according to the Reds midfielder’s former Aston Villa and England partner Darren Bent.

James came through the academy setup at Leeds United and played over 50 senior matches for his boyhood club. Milner left to join Newcastle United in 2004 before Aston Villa came calling four years later to add him on a permanent deal after an earlier loan spell in the Midlands.

Bent only played alongside the 33-year-old midfielder once in Aston Villa colours but he firmly believes his former partner has unfinished business at Elland Road.“When you’ve got somebody who’s had a decorated career as he has, there’s only one place he can return,” Bent said.

“He was Leeds’ youngest ever goalscorer, they love him down there. He doesn’t need the money, the money’s out of it, James has won all the titles, I almost said bar the UCL, but he’s earned that, he’s won everything there is to win. It fits for him to go back there and play where it all started and finish his career there.

By the time English midfielder left Aston Villa to join Man City in 2010 James had become a firm fan favourite and was even applauded off the pitch in his final match in August. Having won the trophy on two occasions with City, James moved to Merseyside club four years ago where he was appointed vice-captain.
