Arsenal started negotiations with €20m-rated Norway international

The decision-makers at the London giants have been left impressed by Mohamed Elyounoussi’s form in the early stages of the campaign. Arsenal are now considering a cut-price move for Southampton winger, who is also being tailed by Leicester City.

Norway international was regarded as an exciting addition when the winger joined the Saints from Basel in the summer of 2018.

However, in his maiden season in the PL, the Elyounoussi failed to live up to his billing and was subsequently loaned out to Celtic, where the winger eventually spent two successive campaigns after having his stay extended last year.

Having been an excellent performer for the Scottish club, Mohamed was given another opportunity to make an impression at St. Mary’s at the onset of the new campaign, and the forward has done just that. In seven games across all tournaments, the 27-year-old winger has a tally of four goals and two assists to show for his efforts.

Such a strong start to the campaign has now alerted the Gunners. The Gunners concentrated their rebuilding efforts in the summer transfer window towards strengthening their defence and midfield, with Martin Odegaard the only footballer who added any creativity.

However, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah appearing ready to depart Arsenal as free agents next summer, the PL giants will need to enter the market for an attacker. While conventional wisdom would suggest the Gunners will sign a centre-forward, they could do with a wide attacking option as well.
